Welcome to Day 2 of the 7 Day Deep Cleaning Challenge! I hope yesterday went well for everyone. It took me from about 8am-3:30pm to clean my entire kitchen! How did it go for you?
Today’s challenge… bedrooms!
One area that definitely gets dirtier than usual during the summer is the children’s bedrooms. They make messes in there that I think sometimes will never get clean! Of course the nice thing about today’s task is that the children will be responsible for some of the tasks in their rooms. They aren’t getting off that easy! So, today should definitely take less time then cleaning the kitchen.
Children’s Tasks:
- Pickup and organize toys and clutter
- Make Bed
- Sort through things for the “donation box”
- Dust furniture
- Empty trash can
- Vacuum
My Tasks:

- Clean door & doorknob
- Polish Wood
- Clean baseboards
- Treat carpet stains
- Vacuum
Here are a few tips & tricks:
Freshening up your mattress:
Spread baking soda and a tablespoon of fabric softener across your mattress, and let it sit for one hour. Vacuum when done. This will help kill dust mites and freshen things up!
Washing your pillows:
Before doing anything, check the washing instructions on your pillow to make sure you are able to put them in the washer. I wash mine on a gentle cycle with hot water. I wash two pillows at a time, and put them through the rinse cycle twice to make sure all the detergent is out. When I dry them, I put in 3 new, clean tennis balls. It helps to fluff the pillows while they dry. Make sure that your pillows are completely dry before taking them out!
Cleaning your ceiling fan:
Use a pillow case! Put a pillow case over the fan blades, then pull off. All of the dust and dirt that falls off will be caught by your pillow case.
Organization:
I like to keep a large box or container nearby so that while I’m organizing I can get rid of things. We love to donate our items to the local St. Vincent De Paul.
Cleaning your carpet:
I like to use a homemade carpet deodorizer and sprinkle it on the carpet before I vacuum it. I mix together 1/2 cup of baking soda, 1/2 cup of borax, and 20 drops of essentials oils. If you don’t have essential oils you can use 1 tsp of ground spice. Let it sit for 20-30 minutes and then vacuum!
