“Sweatpants Cause Divorce”– My Thoughts

Last year the always gorgeous Eva Mendes made headlines when asked during an interview with Extra how she keeps her marriage hot.  Her response was, “You can’t do sweatpants. … No, ladies, number one cause of divorce in America, sweatpants, no!”

Many women were shocked by what she said and were quick to jump to their own defense of wearing sweatpants and yoga pants around the house.  She was accused of being insensitive and making women feel insecure.  But when you really think about it, maybe she does have a point!  Is it dangerous to a relationship to get too comfortable?

I am the type of woman that wears makeup everyday.  I don’t leave the house without it.  Some may think that makes me insecure or many other things, but for me, I’m just a lot more comfortable and confident with makeup on.  It doesn’t mean that I have a full face of glam everyday, but I do have a minimum of mascara and concealer.  Even when I workout I don’t go without mascara on.

As a housewife, it is really easy to get into that comfort mode.  We don’t have an office that we have to go to everyday, and some days the only time you leave the house is for the school drop off and pick up line.  Some days it may feel like what’s the point in getting dressed and getting ready for the day?

I believe that part of a successful marriage means to never stop trying, and this applies to your appearance too.  And also not just the wife!!  When you first started dating your spouse, you made sure that every time you saw them, you were looking your best.  Why should that change after marriage, kids, etc?  I don’t believe that it should.  I’m not saying that you’re completely done up everyday at 7am, and sure some days you may not have the energy for anything more than yoga pants and a messy bun.  I get it.  But taking a quick brush to your hair and freshening up your face doesn’t take that long, and your husband really will appreciate it!  Along with that, you will feel better about yourself and therefor more motivated to get things done.

What are your thoughts on the Eva Mendes theory?
